Shoe advice please!
I am replacing my football shoes. I currently have the Spotbilt Grid Stud shoe and have gotten along fine with it. It does double duty as my base shoe for baseball.
I need to order shoes in EE sizes, so I am down to another pair of Spotbilt or the New Balance 350 in all black. I really want to try the New Balance but it seems as if it may be more of a baseball shoe in the traction department. Anyone use the New Balance 350 for football? If so, any comments? |

Talk to HandCheck7, I know he used them last year in football. I wore them last year in baseball and really liked them. I've heard good things about both shoes and basically just flipped a coin and got the Grid Stud.
I just got a pair of the Spotbilt Grid Stud. Tried them on and they feel great. I'm not sure if Spotbilt is completely shutting down or just their plate shoes line. |

I've had the NB350's for a couple of years
but admittedly, on poor fields or wet weather, I have a pair of adidas regular fb cleats I wear.
I can say on the decently manicured Bermuda grass fields here, I've had no issues with traction so far. An older model of the following shoe was worn by the SEC officials several years ago. I have a low cut version that are hard to find. http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/produ...34/mvp--sport/ |

The NB 350's work great for football. I also use them for baseball.
I just got some of the Reebok NFL shoes that you can buy from Honigs. They are light and very comfortable. A sticker on the inside of the box states they are also availabe in wide widths. |

I vote for the NB 350
I started doing football 4-years ago, started with the Spot-Bilt Grid Stud. After using NB basketball shoes for the last 5-6 years on the basketball court, I decided to give the NB 350s a try last year. I would now vote for the NB shoes. I do most of my football games on natural grass, I work the white hat, with some games on synthetic turf. I really haven't found problems on either type of turf. The 350s can be a little bit of a problem to clean up dust etc, but I just use ArmourAll wipes and the shoes look like new.
I still keep the Spot-Bilts around for the really nasty game days so the NB stay nice. |
