LSU/KY "Illegal Formation"

Gotta love those announcers.

In the second overtime, LSU ball. LSU lines up with 8 on the line. The slot shifted up to the line and was covered by the split end. They run an wide receiver screen to the now covered slot. I see the illegal touching and recognize the flag.

Of course the announcers are clueless. They said "Illegal formation? That's a bench call."

It was the right call, but once again the announcers love to extol their supposedly superior knowledge. Sigh.

I was thinking the same thing. I liked that entire crew. You could see the U saying ---it was behind the line. They took their time and got it right. Unfortunately the game was on TV and so the announce crews wont give them the credit that they deserve.

Maybe I am missing something but why does it matter if it was behind the line? It was a forward pass to an originally ineligible receiver.

I think originally the U was telling them that you can't have ineligible downfield on a pass that is behind the line, so the calling official pointed out that the ineligible receiver touched the pass due to being "coverd up".
