Kick-Catching Interference

Where is KCI enforced? Is it from the end of the kick, the end of the run after the kick, or the previous spot?

We had this situation in a game last week and I just want to make sure we got it right.

Any rule citing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

HLC

Options.

1. Take an awarded fair catch at the spot of the foul.

2. 15 yards from the previous spot

or

3. Decline and take the result of the play

Just remember it is called KICK catch interference. Thus you must still have a kick. And if you have a kick the ball must be loose. And if it is loose you have previous spot enforcement, as well as an awarded spot in this case.

6-5-6 is your rules reference.

Thanks!

Thank you, Warrenkicker and BoBo.

That helped a ton! After looking up Warrenkicker's rule citing and BoBo's list of choices, it looks like we got it right.

Thanks again, fellas!

I thought that quite a few years ago, Fed (though nobody else) had changed #1 to awarded fair catch 15 yards ahead of the spot of the foul. Or maybe they just got favorable feedback on experiments to that effect in a couple of states but never adopted it. Or did they adopt it and change back?

REPLY: Robert...you're right. The Fed did uses that enforcement back some years ago, btu they changed it to what it is today.

Is that part of the recent move to consolidate fouls occurring during or following a loose ball interval, which seems to create anomalies?

REPLY: That might have been the reason. I don't recall exactly what the Comments on the Rule Revisions said that year, but I can check and let you know. I seem to recall though that you're right--they were trying to eliminate an exception to standard loose ball play enforcement.
