Referee Microphone
Guys, I gotta get a mic to start using at games down here and I've been wondering how does that work. Do you have you own mics or the school provides them? Or you don't use'em?
Anybody has any tips on brands and models I can get? And where? |

You have to personally get a mic?
If that is true, how would you know it would work on the school's system all the time? That sounds really odd. Peace

Mics
You got to use the school's. No way you could insure there's a match for the wireless transmission frequency.
If you are playing games at places with refs piped in, they've got mics with their system already. They normally clip like a tie clip to your lapel, then the wire is run under the shirt to the transmitter box on your belt. The on/off switch is on the box, become VERY familiar with it. Most transmitters I've seen require you to remove the belt to hook it on. They don't clip like pagers or cell phones. Most schools have a "tech" to wire you up and show you how to use it. Make sure you have pre-arranged method to turn it back in. Some leave it in the locker room, one school has the deputy sheriff that is our escort take it from the ref on the way to our car. I would not buy one. Let the venue provide it. |

forgot to remind ya'll that I'm not a HS Ref. I'm the director of officiating in Rio de Janeiro. So we don't even use mics for our games since we play'em at the beach without sound system. But we're trying to get a system going for our finals and I need to find out which mic to get. Frequency issues are solved since I'm buyng a whole wireless mic system. But I was wondering what type of mic to get (brand and model and stuff). Even though I'm a audio engineer, I'm a little lazy at this time of the night to look for those things by myself today and was wondering if any of you could help me out

Unless someone here sells that kind of equipment or is in that industry, not sure anyone knows the best system to buy unless they have that background. From an officiating point of view we do not deal with that sort of thing. Maybe the best thing to do is search the internet and you might find something that gives information about that kind of system.
Peace

You can order what ever you need from B & H photo and video
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ I have ordered from them for a company I work with. They have high quality wireless lav mics that would have the range you need for a football game. If you dont have speakers and power amps then make sure you get powered speakers so you dont have to buy the amps. You would also need some sort of mixer so you could have a second mic in the both. Hope that helps they have great customer service so you can email them or call to get their help as well |
