Advice for new official

Gentleman,

I am in the beginning stages of becoming a football referee. I haven't had any experience in this field, but I have been doing a lot of reading and boning up on the profession. I would greatly appreciate any and all beginner's suggestions and pointers. If anyone know's of any good web sites, books, or just anything they can think of that will help a newbie out, I would greatly appreciate any and all input.

Hi Marc ,
I'm in my 2nd year . I watch High School games at every opportunity . I make time ( 20 minutes / day five days/week) to review the rules & situations . I believe it is most important to do this during the off-season. My chapter has enough Officials , so getting games is not easy . I do Knee High games as if it's the Superbowl . good mechanics are important at this stage . Good Luck

As a new official, contact your state high school association and request information about local associations. The associations will provide opportunities for rules discussions, mechanics discussions, and game assignments. there is no greater learning experience than getting on the field and working games.

Plus, when you are working games, the guys you work with will give you some advice on play situations, mechanics, and player/sideline control.

ASsociations are a great way to make contacts, meet experienced officials, and to broaden your view of the rules.
