We're getting older...

Our association just got a writeup in the regional paper, highlighting the forthcoming shortage of officials. It's an interesting read, if not very different from others I've read about other areas of the country.

One thing I find both amusing and disturbing is that the examples of "younger" guys they mention in the article (both top-notch officials - Sean just started working college games this year) are almost 15 years older than I am.

Another interesting thing is that this is the first time I've heard Mike Aquino (our assignor) show any signs that he's considering hanging it up soon.

One thing that's not mentioned in the article is that, of our 124 members, there are a handful who don't work on the field anymore - they stay involved in the association, but their physical capabilities limit them to clock assignments.
