Chinstrap

Is anybody calling failure to wear equipment prior to the snap for a kid who has one point of his chinstrap unbuckled? Or are you stopping and just getting it buckled up without a flag? I'm talking about a situation where the snap is iminent.

My crew (espically the umpire) will remind teams often about chinstraps and mouthguards during the first couple of series.

After that he has been known to throw the flag.

If 3 of the 4 are snapped and I couldn't verbally tell him to get it fixed, I didn't see it and will tell him after the play. Now a mouthpiece is another story. 3 out of 4 is plenty safe.

I was sitting at a car dealer this morning and Sports Center was on TV. The sound was down and I was not paying attention, but I caught a glimpse of a pro receiver getting blasted on a crossing route and his helmet came off. They showed it again, and his bottom strap was undone. I do not know who it was or what game.

There are plenty of hits where all 4 straps are done and helmets come off!

Many NFL guys only strap up 2 of the 4. They hit about 10 times harder than HS as well.
