I am curious what other states pay Officials
In Mid Michigan we play and are paid the following; 7th and 8th grade double headers $75 (played on Sat AM/Sun afternoon...thus the greater pay) 9th $30...Tu/Wed/Thurs...PM JV $35...Thurs PM Frosh/JV DH $65-$75...Thurs PM Varsity $45-$60 depending on the league/school...Some Thurs PM/Sat afternoon/PM...Fridays PM In all cases schools pay mileage if they are outside certain distances. The only days we don't have football games is Monday.

In NC...
...it's not nearly so complicated.
Middle school game, 7th and 8th grades, 4pm on TH, $45, 4 man crew. Junior varsity game, 9th and 10th grades, 7pm on TH, $50, 5 man crew. Varsity game, 7:30pm on FR, $60, 5 man crew. We receive a flat rate, no travel pay. Why screw up the whole week? Unless there's a hurricane, which is highly likely, the times and days are always the same, every week.

In Illinois:
HS Sophomore/Varsity- Fri night/Sat afternoon (a few Sat mornings and nights)- almost all worked as doubleheaders now due to shortage of officials. 5-man crews, $60-75 per man total for both games. Individual games, Sophomores usually $40-45, Varsity $50-60. Varies by school district or conference. HS JV- guys not starting on the varsity- not much of this level of play, not taken very seriously- Monday or Thursday afternoons, some Saturday morning, 3-man crew, $36 per man. HS Freshman- Thursday afternoon, Saturday morning- 2-man or 3-man crews, $32-36 per man. Fifth quarter pays another 20-25%. Some doubleheaders, but do not pay 2x single game fee (and I don't work 'em!). Below HS-level is Pop Warner and Catholic grade schools. Play Saturdays and Sundays, all day and night (12 noon until 9 pm). 3-man or 4-man crews, pay ranges from $20 to $40 per game, varies by level of kids and by league. Kids start tackle football in first grade/7 years old. No one in Illinois pays mileage (ha!) except I believe at certain higher levels of the state championship series they may pay a little bit. Hope this helps. |

In West Virginia we are paid 50 to 60 depending A, AA or AAA for varsity with 5 officials, no travel. JV games 5 officials @ $ 35 Middle School @ $ 25 4 man, Midget games @ $ 20 4 man. also no travel with any of the games no matter the how far. I will travel as much as 160 miles one way some Friday nights to as little as 20 one way.

Kentucky Pay Scale
New rates for '01:
Freshman & JV: $25 / man Varsity: $50 / man Playoffs: Additional $5 each round ($5 $60 ...) Travel: negotiated by local association: Ours collects $0.25/mi for one vehicle only for certain schools outside the metropolitan area. Freshman play on Thursday evenings, JV on Saturday morning. Curiously though, varsity plays on Friday night! For games below high school level fees are negotiated with each league. [Edited by Rick KY on Jul 18th, 2001 at 05:13 AM] |
