I don't recommend this but I loved the story - I worked with a friend who later became a very respected and wll knon WH in the NFL. He was working as an umpire in a small college game and the tight end kept coming across and, while using the umpire as a screen, he would always bump into him. After several discussions/warning which were iqnored, the umpire got set for the next pass play and as the tight end came up on him my friend gave him an elbow shot as hard as he could. The tight end never came near him again during the game.

Frankly, it's about time that the NFL puts the reins on the coaches and their behavior. It's definitely trickling down, except at the HS level I'm not about to put up with it. I've flagged at least 2 coaches for USC the last three seasons.

Rich I agree with you. I don't put up with much either. I think I had two USC on HC this year and one ejection.

I get to Umpire a lot, and also find that telling them I will move if the TELL me works best. I try to remind the backs of each once per half as well, and usually take a quick look around if the offence is obviously not fully set.

I've only really had problems with the 'star players' that some teams here inport from America. They assume the rules they had to live by there aren't so important now and try to push around. Usually I will give a warning, but not always - if it is blatent.

James
