I was going through my gear today, and I noticed that my good flag (the only one I used this year, unless it was extremely muddy) was discoloured. The bottom half (half with the ball) is the colour of the flag when it was purchased, but the top half, the half that sticks out of my pocket is way different shade, it's lighter and looks really bad.

I'm guessing this is because of all the games I did under the sun this summer. Anyone have any similar experiences?

I guess I'm gonna have to make a stop off at Honig's to pick up some new flags.

You can wash your flag with laundry soap. I recommend wisk
Since you mentioned putting the ball end in your pocket and the part that shows I take you have most of your flag
showing. Any thoughts on this??

Not sure about US, but there is nothing here that says how we are to wear our flags. As a result, sometimes you get as many styles as there are officials.

Myself, I use the NFL style. It's by far the cleanest way to wear a flag.

Personally, I prefer the centre sand weighted flag. But then again, I am partial. And I like to wear it in my front right pocket.

Those sand flags just don't fly well.

I'll use my old flag with a washer in it whenever i can.

I'll either use the washer flag or the torpedo flag, and I carry it in my back right pocket. I've tried carrying it other ways but it just doesn't feel right.

It may not be long before the washer flags are no longer legal. That's why we just make the sand weighted ones. I know the washer ones are heavier and fly further, but for a couple of years now I have been told that sooner or later they won't be legal.

I wouldn't use it - I have sandfilled and it accomplishes the same thing. If I need that weight to throw a flag that far then I am probably out of position or fishing in someone elses pond.

With my crew, we try not to have any yellow showing. We keep the flag entirely in the pocket or with the ball type we make sure the ball end is white.

I've heard that white bean bags are not going to be recommended in the future. Anyone hear of this? I can't believe the blue one will be seen very well on grass at night.

I heard that one NCAA (Gateway)conference, does not want to use the
blue beanies after a week or two trial, they are hard to pick out on the tapes. So they went back to the white ones.
Flag are for marking penalty enforcements or spots, I think
one should watch the way you actually throw it.
Sure you want it to be noticed, but do you want it to
be NOTICED>>>>>>>>>>>. Don't get emotional when you throw it.

New Flags

Honig's now has a flag that is colored white on the bottom. I would say that it is white so that it matches a stripe on your shirt and pants.

DO you think that one day in the near future all flags will have to be white on the bottom... so people can't see them? Not like it really matters if they see them or not. I saw an NFL game today and the referees flag was painted black on the bottom and he lined it up with the black part of his shirt.

Firstly in Canada, we use red/orange flags, and we don't care if it's sticking out or shown.

2. Our field is considerable larger, and many of our fouls are enforced at the point the ball was held, not the point of the foul, so you may have a foul in your area, but the ball is clearly somewhere else, and you need to pick up that spot.

3. I use the torpedo flag on all games except mud games. I'm gonna have to get a new one for the upcoming year because it's lost it's new flag look, although i thought it'd last more than a year.

Just some explanations.

When I thow my flag it's either high in the air, or to a specific spot. If there's no weight, it won't go that high, and I'll have a harder time aiming for that spot.

I never have any problem in throwing my orange flag. I can get the height or the distance. When I throw it, it is not by the centre sand but by the ends. To get the distance, I simply grasp all four corners and fling it where I want it to land. The same method for height.
