A beauty from the other day - QB threw a pass out to his left, overhand and skipped it - but it was very definitely backwards. My partner and I both had it cold. Defense recovered the loose ball while the offense stood around.
Coach of A says "But he threw it DOWN!" and pantomimed the throwing motion. I just wanted to shake my head. Luckily, I didn't.

Another embarassing situation tonight. . . K kicks off down 14 points in the begining of the 4th quarter. They line up normal and then most slide to one side, both teams are moving around as the kicker kicks it onside. L (4 man crew) tosses flag and blows play dead for encroachment on K. R's Coach is arguing with me (LJ) about how he wants the decline the penalty and take the result of the play. I spend about 2 minutes (maybe not that long, but it seemed longer) trying to explain dead ball fouls and how the ball is not permitted to become live after one and all he says is "well then they get as many times as they want to try the onside kick, that doesn't make sense". I told him that the play he witnessed never existed, because the ball was dead and stayed dead after the penalty (and even likened it to encroachment and a false start during a scrimmage down). Some people, and this guy has been coaching 20+ years, just don't get it.
