LTG is EXACTLY on the yard-marker. Ball is placed a full half yard short.

Coach - "Can we get a measurement?"
Me - "No, sir."
Coach - "What?!?!?!"
Me - "No, sir, it's not even close."
Coach - "I want a gawdam measurement."
Me - "No sir, you missed by at least half a yard."
Coach - "You don't decide when we need a measurement, WE do! I get a measurement if I gawdam ask for one! I coached for 20 years in Mississippi and have NEVER had one of you numbnuts not give me one..." at this point he's about to the numbers and he kept on gum-flapping, but I was too busy signalling the sideline warning to hear him.

My question. I'm in Texas, doing NCAA rules.

Is there some rule in FED requiring officials to give a measurement on any request (making him correct about Mississippi), or is this blowhard simply wrong in TWO rulesets?

It's always been up to the whitehat around here (Fed).

If it's a well-marked field and the scenario is as you stated, it's "play ball!"

NF rule 5-3-2-Note: says the request for measurement may be denied, if in referee's opinion, it is obvious the line to gain has or has not been reached.

So I guess blowhard either A) never came across a referee who would deny his absurd requests, B) was lying, or C) was wrong in all rulesets.
