on a kickoff return R tries a trick play where the player who received the kick throws it to his teammate on the other side of the field. the problem is the ball was thrown forward and batted down by K. Should this play be blown dead once the ball hits the ground and flagged for illegal forward pass? the pass was thrown at the 15 yard line. would it be R's ball 1st and 10 on the 10 yard line? please comment on this.

Yes, this should be blown dead. Any forward pass, legal or illegal, is incomplete and the ball becomes dead when the pass touches the ground or goes out of bounds. (NF 7-5-5)

If the spot of the foul was R's 15, then the penalty would be 5 yards from that spot. 1-10, R's 10.
