I am trying to get the hang of JC Football stat keeping, any help with the questions would be much appreciated.
1. I know some penalties cancel out plays, but what counts as an offensive play. 2. If a player catches a pass for 10 yards and then fumbles to the other team, do the receiver and the quarterback still get credit for the gained yards? 3. If there is a hold or illegal block on the offense, does a rusher still get credited with yards to the spot of the foul? And does it count as a rushing attempt? |

1. Unless the foul occurs at the snap, the play counts. For example, A21 gains 10 yards on a running play but there's a flag 5 yards beyond the LOS for holding. A21 will get credit for 5 yards rushing, to the point of the foul, then you'll have 10 penalty yards to compensate for the 5 yards lost on the actual play.
2. Yes, they do. Otherwise, how would you account for the yardage before the TO? 3. Yes. See play #1.
