i lost my issue of Referee from last year that compared the states pay for different sports. i am curious on if anyone used it as leverage in negociating a new fee schedule.

Current pay for varsity games in GA; $73
Next year: $88 (however travel pay will be eliminated)

It's funny you mentioned that as I was looking at it just yesterday. 73 is pretty high, beats my pay. I think they should redo the study, I'd like to see how much they've changed in the last year or two.

Unhappy Oregon

Don't whine too loud, WE ARE PAID THE LOWEST!!! 51st in pay in all surveys to date!!!

But hold the phone...
While we will not know for sure until a December vote is taken, Pending OSAA Executive Board approval, the following is the proposed fee increase:

"Brace yourself, and I hope you are sitting down"

4A/3A Varsity: 2005 $45.50/$43.50; 2006 - $50.00; 2007 - $53.50
2A/1A Varsity: 2005 $31.50/$31.50; 2006 - $45.00; 2007 - $48.25

4A/3A Sub-Varsity: 2005 $34.00/$32.50; 2006 - $36.00; 2007 - $38.00
2A/1A Sub-Varsity: 2005 $31.00/$31.00; 2006 - $32.50; 2007 - $34.25

When comparing the highest division of varsity play on a per stat basis, we currently rank 51st in pay nationwide!
We are getting a fairly substancial raise by poverty standards.
If my calculations are correct we should retain our lock on dead last (51st place) in pay by the end of the year 2007.

Hey KWH, you also have that great Northwest weather. I bet the sun shines 40 days a year!

Albany, NY area

Last year, varsity fees were $72 for the R, $68 for the rest of the on-field officials, four officials per game. Our contract just went through a dispute and arbitration process, in which we got basically nothing, so that's where we'll be for a while.

Western Central PA: The scale is set by each individual school, 6 man crew averages $50.00 per man with no travel expense.

Texas pays based on gate receipts for all or most sports. I don't have a sheet handy, but I believe it ranges from $45 for one varsity game and has no cap.

I think we're at $66. But KWH, look on the bright side. You don't live in New Jersey where we pay the highest car insurance and (I think) the property taxes in the country. Gotta to work a career full of varsity contests to offset one year's worth of car insurance and property taxes.

In Ky it went from 55 to 65 just this year. This is a big reason why we cannot get officials.
