Attacking a ref in IL is a year in jail max and a hefty fine.
Trial date set for man accused of attacking referee BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A February 28th trial date is set for a Murphysboro man accused of attacking a referee during a football game. Authorities say 44-year-old James Camden is charged with aggravated battery and battery. He's accused of attacking a veteran Southern Illinois official in September of 2003 during a sophomore football game at West Frankfort. Camden had a son playing in the game. Prosecutors contend he ran onto the football field and tried to choke the ref shortly before the end of the first half. The case has moved slowly through the Franklin County Court system, but Franklin County Circuit Judge Loren Lewis wants no further delay and says both sides should be ready to go on February 28th. |
