I am not an official, but I am interested in becoming one, but I have no clue how to go about doing that. Any advice would be great.

The first thing is to tell us where you are. That way we can direct you to the proper association.

Check out this link. Scroll down to First Step. There's a link with information to the various organizations.

http://www.naso.org/BeOfficial/

Don't wait until the season to start learning the rules. If you're interested in working football you will need to UNLEARN everything you see on Sundays. The rules are very different.

You can get rules books here:

http://www.nfhs.org

Good luck.

Use the link I gave you to find a local association FIRST. Then, find out through them about the rules. The link I gave you about obtaining rules books are for High School Federation (National Federation of High Schools) which most of the country follows. From what I've read in former posts on this site Texas follows college rules so the nfhs.org site will be no good to you. So, contact a local association then go from there.

Then those books they referenced won't do you any good. Texas uses NCAA rules, not NFHS.

http://www.taso.com is your Texas official's website.
http://www.dfoa.com is your Dallas football official's website.
I would suspect that someone on the contact us list on DFOA can provide you with a contact person in the Fort Worth chapter.

Email me - I have 1 friend in the FW chapter, I could get the contact info from him if you can't get it through the other sources.

Your rulebook (well... last year's): http://www.ncaa.org/library/rules/20...ball_rules.pdf

Both Ft. Worth and Waco have chapter. For the Ft. Worth chapter check out http://www.fwfo.org and all the contact information is there. I couldn't find a website for Waco but you can go to http://www.taso.org enter that and click the tab for football and then follow that to Local TASO football chapters and you will find the contact for Waco. Best of luck and if you have any problems getting into contact with someone I would also suggest joining the http://www.gmcgriff.com discussion board.
