What makes an Excellent Official? is a workshop presented by Dan Louie
Click the link: "Begin the workshop" at the bottom of the page. It's free and contains excellent information about officiating. http://www.football.refs.org/workshop/ |

REPLY: Dan Louie used to participate on these boards--especially McGriff's--pretty regularly ("DKL" was his screen name). He's got a fabulous mind when it comes to officiating and has helped a number of newer officials--especially out in the Washington area. Jim S. and Jim Neil, and me to a much lesser extent have participated in chat rooms with Danny. A good man to listen to!

Thanks... I like his workshop.
His workshop is a wonderful frame-work to help us develop a personal officiating style. It is very thought-provoking because it goes beyond the rules and mechanics knowledge and makes us think about the "big picture".
I printed it out last year and keep it in my 3-ring binder and try to read and reflect upon it at least once or twice a year. What I enjoy most about his workshop is that he makes us create a road-map on how to get better. Also, how to develop a positive attitude of cooperation and good sportsmanship.
