Wink Canadian Football does not count.

It appears that it is the case in every level except the NFL.

Peace

Are you sure about that? I think I have seen NFL QBs catch TD passes in the last couple of years. Throw back from the TB.

Pass eligibility rules are number and position and the QB under center is a back.

I don't know if this is a recent rules change in the NFL.
But I do know that a QB under center is an ineligible to receive a forward pass in the NFL. This happened in the MIN-PHI Monday night game this year.

He can make himself eligible by taking the snap from a shotgun formation.

7-5-6:"The following players are eligible pass receivers:
a. All A players eligible by position and number include those who, at the time of the snap, are on the ends of their scrimmage line or legally behind the line (possible total of six) and are numbered 1-49 or 80-99."

"Possible total of six" tells me that everybody besides the five interior linemen are eligible.

But Mike is right - they DID rule the QB ineligible when he was under center on MNF. There must be another rule elsewhere that describes an exception for a QB lined up breaking the plane of the adjacent lineman's waist.

Since most of us are concerned with NF to NCAA to Pop Warner, if the QB is wearing an eligible number he is an eligible receiver even if he takes the direct snap from under center.

If your game envolves semi-pro rules or rules based on NFL rules, it does appear to be a unique rule here.

The QB is eligible, and must report to the WH if wearing an ineligible number.

Also, the scrimmage rule states that any offensive line player may snap the ball. Imagine a wide receiver snapping the ball to the QB. Most players will think he's ineligible, but he isn't. I have yet to see it, but I think it can gain some yards without question.

looking closer

did they not rule that the 1st pass was forward, even though in the backfield?

I could have been mistaken...

No, because I am only referring to "real" football.
