If the QB can get a play through the headset in his helmet why can't the defense get a play in the same way?

Are you talking about the NFL? In NFHS play it's illegal (1.5.3.b) and a USC foul against the head coach.

REPLY: We can only assume you're speaking about NFL football. If so, the answer is really very simple. The rules don't allow it.

Yes. I was talking about the NFL. Can anyone cite the rule forbidding using headsets for the defense?

Opinion
The NFL rules are structured, and enforced, to see that the offense has every advantage possible without outright saying that the defense can't prevent the offense from scoring.

NFL football is, and has been since the early 60s, designed for TV. People don't tune in to see two mules fighting over a turnip.
