Wink

We had a meeting of our varsity football crew earlier this week. I have worked on the crew as linejudge for the past three years and have subbed twice for our referee when he has been out. Our referee and crew chief has decided to go ahead and step away from the game on his own terms. His knees won't let him move the way he wants to. In the ultimate wisdom of the crew, they have asked that I become the referee and crew chief.

What I am after is any advice to assist us in working well with the changes. In Indiana we work as crews and are assigned playoff games as a crew. Our crew has gone two rounds each of the years that I have been a part of it. Going farther is an ultimate goal but my real desire is to have the crew work well together. Any advise would be great. Thanks in advance.

Congrats Axe Man!

I'll be very interested in this post as I am in the same boat as you are. My R retired after putting in 30 years so I'll be moving from my spot as U.

U to R isn't that bad, usually the U knows the penalty enforcement(or should) just as well as the R. I personally don't have any interest in WH, not now and I don't think I ever will, atleast for HS games, I don't mind WH for little league. But congrats and I wish you luck in the future! Hope you have a lot of fun.

Cool

I worked for 32 years in CNY------
within our assigning chapter- for regular season games
there were some "crews" made up of R,U,FJ
and HL, and BJ of the week. A lot of the weekly games
were staffed by "make-up" crews. Regular crews did not
(normally) get assigned to play-off games----
sectional and state play-offs were worked
by "split crews" from the various sections.
I guess that here in FL-- "regular" crews get
play-off assignments.
I see benefits and negatives for both systems.

Axe Man We had a situation where our R and I BJ flipped positions about 4 years ago. It was and exciting change for me and I have really enjoyed it.

For you if your crew has been fortunate to work playoffs then your work is speaking for itself.

If it aint broke dont fix it! Yes you may have some new parts to the crew but I would suggest to keep on doing what you have been doing
