And yes, when our kid is out there every game could possibly be his last, so we (parents) are especially upset when calls are missed that have the potential to cause serious physical harm (face mask, late hits, etc). We are very appreciative of the time that is put into officiating high school games.
I know at this stage that that call is a moot point, and it was a non-league game, but we do not want officials who may, for what ever reason, have some kind of bias against our team.
I do know that the coach is sending tape to someone regarding our last game and the fact that one of the offials was an alumni of the opposing school.
I really appreciate all of you responding to this football mom. How awesome of you! What a great site this is.
Thank you!
I hope my previous post didn't come across as negative. Officials can and do make mistakes. A mistake during a measurement would be uncommon.

An official who wants to show favoratism is rare as well.
I am hoping that something happened to which you weren't privy. Maybe when the chain was brought out, the lineman put the clip on the wrong end of the line or something, but from the description, it sounds like the measurement was made well after the ball was placed.

If this was indeed an official showing bias, I would hope the AD and/or coach would submit the game tape to whomever is in charge of the officials and they get the official(s) off the playing field.

As others have stated, officials make mistakes and when we do we feel worse about it than anybody. We strive to be perfect and are expected to be, but we are human and we understand it's not possible. The reason I am quoting your statement above on the late hits etc. is things like that happen and we hope to catch them but the fact is the injury caused by the late hits are still going to happen whether we throw a flag or not. A lot of people feel as if the flag is a protective barrier. The only thing that we hope happens is that it will deter that from happening again. We appreciate your posts and come back anytime you have something to ask. Just keep it clean and professional and you will find we are the same.

Cool

MikeSears, your comments were not negative and not taken that way. I have found all of you very informative and helpful. Sometimes it helps to just vent.

We do hope that if a team gets enough calls on late hits and the like, that they will be less likely to do it. I do know that sometimes the momemtum propels an athlete forward at a rate that he can't stop on time, and we all understand that.

You all have been great! Care to come out to our school and officate a game???

Oh no!!! Not a football mom!!! They are the worst!!!

Just kidding (about most of them)

Football moms are some of the most enthusiastic (loud) fans at the games. They can get a little upset when their child is hurt out there. I may as well when that day comes for my kids. I think that more of the parents of players are like you than like the moms who are a little TOO into the game.

I am glad that you came to this site where you can get answers even though we didn't have many for you. Courtesy and respect is the best we can hope for and you showed it to us. Officiating is a very thankless job but then sometimes parenting is also. Hope you find a resolution that satisfies you and your team. Good luck.

Wink

Warrenkicker, I know that kind of parent, and I do my best to sit far away from them! My kids have been playing sports since they were 4, they've had their injuries (serious and not so serious). After this year, I will still have eight years of high school sports to sit and learn from. I have learned a lot from 11 years of watching so far and this site has added to it. Thank you.

If this thread gets any mushier I’m going to bust out in tears Just kidding ... good to see everyone getting along. And I’ll bet you that with just a little prodding we could entice nshannon into putting on some strips. What do you say Mom? If she ever did, I’d love to hear her response to the loud mouth, third string when he played, father screamming at you ... “JUST LET THE KIDS PLAY YOU OVER OFFICIAS JURKS”. LOL

Yeah, yeah, I saw the "typo" too, thought it was some new league!

By the By, my kid's team won Friday night and made it to the invitational playoffs (first time in 8 years). The officiating was pretty decent, missed calls/made calls, balanced for both teams. My faith is restored.
