everytime i am watching NFL, i never understand the punting fields position, plz help me out

i know that after the punting team punts the ball, ball hits the playing field and go into the end zone, it start from 20 yards for the receving team. also, if the ball go directly into the end zone, receving team also start from 20 yards.

following are my question

(1)what is the field position if the ball go directly out of bound (without hitting the playing feild)

(2)what is the field position if the ball hit the playing fields then bounce out of bound (without anyone touch it)

(3)what is the field position if the ball hit the playing fields then player from kicking team touch the ball. after that, the ball bounce out of bound

(4)what is the field position if the ball hit the playing fields then player from kicking receving team touch the ball. after that, the ball bounce out of bound

thanks a lot for help. also, is there a web site that all NFL rules like this that i can go take a look or some kind of ebook store?

The answers to your questions are as follows,

1) the ball is placed where it went out of bounds, the covering official is lined up by the referee to help him with the spot

2) the ball is placed where it went out of bounds

3) the ball is placed where it went out of bounds, unless the spot where the kicking team touched the kick is in advance of where it went out of bounds, it that case the ball is placed where it was touched.

4) the ball is placed where it went out of bounds.

thanks for the help, but for the above answer, if the ball never hit the playing field and directly go out of bound, hit the fan stand, then where do they place the ball?

thanks

also, how about kicking?

if the kicker kick the ball out of bound without anyone touch it, is it a penalty?

in week 2 Dallas vs NY Giant, at the end of 4th Q, M.Bryant kick it out of bound and Dallas start from 40 yards?

thanks again

You are mixing up kicking situations. It is never illegal to punt (scrimmage kick) the ball OOB. The ball is placed at the spot where it crossed the sideline.

On a kick off (free kick) the ball can't go OOB without being touched by an R player. It is illegal procedure, free kick OOB. In NF it can be placed 25 yards from previous spot. In NCAA and NFL it can be placed 30 yards from previous spot. The other options for all levels it to take it where it went OOB or back up the kicking team 5 yards and kick again. The NFL has another option on onside kicks. If it goes OOB then they automatically is backed up 5 yards and they do it again. If it then goes OOB again then it is placed at that spot for R 1-10.

No, the spot of where it was kicked. That spot, on any play, is where the ball was when the ready for play was blown. Alway use the 25 or 30 yards from previous spot. Never just assume that the ball will go to the 35. The kickoff might not have been from the 40 or 35 and if you just go to the 35 you might get it wrong.
