Illegal formation
With under 2 minutes remaining in the game. Team A has an illegal formation penalty with a running play. Is this a situation where Team B can choose to start on the snap? They were losing by less than a touchdown at the time.

NFHS: If this occurs with under 2 minutes in either half and the clock would otherwise start on the ready, the offended team (in this case, B) can elect to start the clock on the snap.

Under NCAA rules, the offended team could choose to start the clock on the snap as long as three conditions are satisified:
1) there are less than 2 minutes remaining in the half. 2) the offended team is behind in the score (or tied) 3) the penalty administration was the only reason that the clock was stopped. |
