Holding (Basic spot)

I'm a little confused about this basic spot definition on a foul.
Lets say Team A has it 1-10 from their 45. During the live ball the O-line hold (flag) at the 40. QB get sack at the 25.
Defense accept the penalty.
how is it enforce? Is the penalty enforce from the end of the run which is at the 25 or from the spot where the foul occur?

1-25 from the 30 yd. or 1-40 from the 15 yd?

1st and 40 from the 15. Basic spot is the 25. Since the foul was not behind the basic spot, enforce from the basic spot. Question I have is why flag for holding when the QB is sacked? I suppose it could happen, but that's a tough one to explain to the coach.

What if the BJ has a flag down for defensive holding?

Defensive penalties are always from the basic spot, so 1st and 15 from the 40.

No, that’s why you throw the offensive hold on a sack.

No, because obviously A gained no advantage by holding. There may have been holding contact, but with no advantage, it should not be a foul.

Granted there may be exceptions.

If it’s immediate to the sack, I don’t disagree, But otherwise....

As a D coach I’d wonder why we’re being penalized for a hold while another hold is being disregarded.

Or the holding is obvious to the point where your credibility is on the line if you do not call it (it stands out clearly on tape). So yes there could be a hold on one player, but another player makes the play and gets a sack.

Peace

Defense holding and your penalizing the offense?

No. Penalizing the defense. I did miscalculate, though. It would be 1st and 20 from the 35. Play ended at the 25, so tack on 10 and replay the down.

The basic spot is the end of the run (where the QB was sacked) because there was no pass/loose ball. If there was a legal forward pass, we'd enforce from the previous spot.
