Illegal Batting?

Sit: QB arm (not ball) gets hit the ball goes forward. The center sees this and bats the ball down so it will not be intercepted by a linebacker. Is this illegal batting as the ball has not been touched a defender? 5 yards and loss of down?

NFHS: Illegal touching, 5 yards, LOD. An ineligible receiver cannot bat, muff, or catch a legal forward pass unless it's first touched by B.

Batting is 15 yards, no LOD. It's not illegal batting because players can legally bat a forward pass or a fumble in flight.
