HAs a team line up in the wishbone (not uncommon)where the line was normal, backs normal. The strange one was the TE (I asked coach about it). He got to the line of scrimmage, placed his down field foot perpendicular to the tackles outside foot, and formed a rt angle with the line.
Has anyone seen this before? Just for my sanity, he is considered ON THE LINE??? Right. I have seem the end/TE line up somewhat like this, but usually off the line, or about 3 yds outside the tackle.

No, it is most definitely NOT considered to be on the line.
2-30-9 A lineman is any A player who is facing his opponent s goal line with the line of his shoulders approximately parallel thereto and with his head or foot breaking an imaginary plane drawn parallel to the line of scrimmage through the waist of the snapper when the ball is snapped.

If you had 7 on the line, and the sideways guy on the end - who is eligible? Sideways guy AND the guy on the end lined up correctly?
Seems like an illegal formation to me.

That formation is definitely illegal. Wishbone formation is a fullback and two tailbacks, plus the quarterback. Once you had the TE(who would now be called a wingback) is now in the backfield. Illegal formation.

He is only in the backfield if he is not breaking the plane of the waist of the nearest lineman. If he is not in the backfield and is not facing the opponents goal, he is in an illegal position, thus it is an illegal formation.

It was my understanding that he wasn't breaking the plane, but either way I guess they're both illegal formations.
