Guys,
Please help a very, very new official with a simple explanantion of a rule. I am getting confused with offsides on both sides on the ball. On a regular scrimmage play, i know the defense must cross the neutral zone to be flagged. But when does an offensive lineman get flagged. At any movement? Do they have to cross the neutral zone?

Thanks alot. Learning alot from this board!

Smile NF rules:

Welcome!

The offense of course commits a dead-ball encroachment foul if they enter the neutral zone after the ready for play and the center has placed his hand(s) on the ball.

Also, the offense can commit a false start foul if an interior lineman lifts his hand(s) from the ground or makes any movement that simulates the start of the play (flinches, jerks, etc.).

Also, the center can jerk the ball and that results in a dead-ball illegal snap foul.

In summary, the offense can commit any of these fouls without actually entering the neutral zone.
