Geno Has His Knickers in a Twist!

I found this article on MSN.com: Geno Auriemma: Men's basketball game is 'a joke'

How much more help does the offense need?

We're fighting for the entertainment dollar
I didn't realize collegiate athletics was about entertainment. I thought it was about education. This guy just became the leading witness for collegiate athletes that want to unionize and get paid for their participation (beyond tuition, room, and board)

This is why I support my local D-III school. It's still about money, but at least it's not ALL about money.

So...Geno wants more scoring in NCAA men's. OK, let's let them use a 20" ball, double the circumference of the rim, shorten the court by 40 feet, make the 3 point line a 9 point line, no back court guarding, no zone defense and allow only 2 players from each team on the court at any time.

Oh yeah, the players will play better and therefore score more without any coaches.

I watched parts of a couple of women's games. Tons of bad shots, air balls, and just unwatchable play.

Let the media tell it, NCAA Men's basketball is in the worst shape ever. Sorry, I do not get that narrative. And changing the shot clock is not going to make the game better. You just will have more forced shots IMO.

Peace

1. Geno did call it a joke, but during some follow up questions did indicate his sport was even worse.

2. Problem with college basketball narrative seems to be that its the only high level version of the game in the world where the competitive story lines take a priority over scoring, flow and skilled play.

3. Not sure if Geno wants more euro or pro style games played at all levels, these do follow up his comments re:state of high school game and shot clock needs in Conneticut.

4. Haven't gotten involved too much on other Social Media or wanting to here on this issue, because of the amount of direct and passive aggressive hating being linked to the gender issue. I don't think that guys and girls sports are the same, they clearly aren't. I'm also not captain PC. But when people start talking about coaching a real sport, or using gendered imagery to denote or directly link to weakness of some kind. Not cool/

I am the father of a 10 year old girl who plays 3 sports, 2 on travel teams. I'm happy she enjoys playing.

But it's obvious to me that ESPN and other media have always tried to shove women's basketball down America's collective throats.

I think this is one area where the market has, and continues, to speak. Does it mean Geno is a bad coach? No, it doesn't.
