Iowa St at Kansas St Timeout Request (Video)
18.4 seconds in the second half.
Rebound and ISU player falls and controls the ball then calls timeout. Issue was is there a travel or did he have possession of the ball to request a timeout? Peace

Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, given a chance to climb, they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is. |

I rarely question Tom Eades and I'm not about to here.
If you distinctly hear a coach with the presence of mind to call a timeout here, I think you give the player the benefit of the doubt. And it you want to get technical about it, I think the ISU player cradled the ball (control) before he hit the deck, and I'm going to say that's probably exactly when the coach call for timeout. Right, coach? ![]() |

And why would that matter if the timeout had already been requested?

It wouldn't. But all I can see from the video is when the visual request was made. I can't hear on the video if the player or coach requested TO while the ball was in his possession.

That is all you need.

You're right, the visual request by A1 was made after he lost PC. However, we don't know if the HC was calling for one at the same time.

Correct, and if he was requesting TO when A1 had the ball, then all is well (Thank you Kevin Bacon).

True, but you can read his lips before that and see that he looked right at the official and requested the TO before he took his hands off the ball to visually request it. I think he briefly had control and the timeout request was made at that moment and it was correctly granted.

I certainly don't see a travel. He clearly dove for the ball, and didn't control it then fall.
