Travel or Double-Dribble on Bobble

I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I can't find it. Young player dribbles the ball and stops. Goes to pass the ball, bobbles it, loses control, and recovers it without the ball being touched by another player. Begins to dribble again. Violation?

Thanks!

It's nothing until he dribbles again.
Then it's an illegal dribble.

If you go through old threads, I think you'll find this memory tool: you can fumble-dribble-fumble, but not dribble-fumble-dribble. Why would bobbling the ball entitle you to a new dribble?

Sorry--also should have said the player moves his feet--the ball went a few feet away (hitting the floor)--before being recovered.

doesn't matter. If it's a fumble you cannot have a travel. A player can also recover the fumble. Hitting the floor is irrelevant.

Not relevant, assuming it was a fumble. A player must be holding the ball in order to travel (there's an exception to this, but it doesn't apply here). By definition, if he fumbles it, he's not holding it.

From your description, the only violation is when he dribbles after getting to the ball again.
