Another front court back court scenario
Ball is in team A's front court, ball is to be thrown in on the base line (front court) by the basket, A1's possession for a throw in
Player A1 throws the ball in by the top of the key in the front court where A2 tips the ball which then goes into the back court, tipped so that B2 couldnt intercept it. After A2 tips the ball, A2 then goes into the back court retrieves his own tip, and is the first to pick up the ball and begins a dribble. In this case, did A2's tip then retrieval before anyone else touched the ball complete the throw in, which now makes it a back court violation? Thank you |
No, because there was no TC in the frontcourt.

Requirements for a backcourt violation (in order):
1. Player control obtained (inbounds), establishing true team control 2. Ball gains frontcourt status (it may or may not be in player control at this point) 3. Ball last touched by team A BEFORE the ball goes into the backcourt 4. Ball first touched by team A AFTER it goes into the backcourt Note that the location of the touch in 3 and 4 are not relevant, only that team A was the team to touch the ball closest to the time before and after it goes from frontcout to backcourt. |

While TC is indeed established in the FC on this play, it is not a BC violation because the rule makers don't want it to be, in spite of how they worded the rule. |

Since #1 didnt happen because it was only a tip by A2, but #2,3 and 4 did happen, then it isnt a BC violation? |
Camron gave a good synopsis. Y
You must have all four to have backcourt. |
