Post

I am a recent college graduate from the University of Texas, and now reside in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area. I officiated basketball games for two years at UT, and wish to pursue officiating at a higher level but need information on how to get started. If anyone can give me information on how to start officiating at the high school level and beyond, I would greatly appreciate it. I've heard there is a camp that runs from August 22-24 in Ft. Worth, and the cost is $100 but I am very vague on the details. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the officiating.com community links. There you should be able to find links to either/or both of the Dallas and Ft. Worth chapters for basketball officiating.

Go to http://www.taso.org and that will give you the list of contacts in the Dallas, Ft. Worth, and North Texas chapters. Also...go to http://www.dallasref.com -- that is the website for the Dallas Chapter. The FW chapter used to have a site but it's been down for a year or so.

Just contact the chapter secretary of the chapters you want to be in. Keep in mind, Dallas is the 2nd largest chapter in Texas, so working your way up may be a little tough. Also--I'm in the Austin chapter right now (attending UT--Hook 'Em!) and we have just left TASO and are currently our own independent chapter. I don't know if other chapters are currently following this trend. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, just let me know.

Wink We are sticking with TASO

http://www.taso.org They had some mgmt problems and had a big turnover. Several chapters including larger ones withheld their annual dues at the end of last season and some withdrew completely.

Our chapter is ricebelt. We are West and mostly South of Houston.

One other thing you might do is show up at a volleyball game at a middle or jr high school close to where you live. Many Volleyball refs also do basketball and a lot of places has the same org to manage them. Volleyball season starts this week, so you can get in early.

Stick with it. I was calling at your age then stopped for many years. Really wished I hadn't.

The Fort Worth chapter web site is http://www.fwboa.com

The camp in Ft. Worth is at North Crowley H.S.

It is an excellent camp, I will be attending, and did so last year as well. You can contact Rus Siebert at
214-356-2714 for information, he is the president of the
Ft. Worth TASO chapter.
