Coaches comments following outstate event

Some interesting comments by one of the local five's coach, gives insight to how things are different across the roman empire.

I have not seen any game film and am only taking these comments at face value, but I think we've all heard of these instances happening at so called "big time" events.

I do know this, my inbox is full of staff memos from various assignors across all levels that hammer in the point of staying the course, remember our keys (freedom of movement, bench decorum, managing major moments etc etc etc), regardless of conf season starting call the same game as we did in Nov and Dec

CBC (6-4, No. 2 LS) went 2-2 at the Holiday Classic in Palm Springs last week. The Cadets were put up against some of the roughest, toughest competition the nation could provide and held their own, even if it took getting bumped and bruised.

“We had to adjust to the physical play and the shot clock,” CBC coach Justin Tatum said. “The shot clock wasn’t a problem, but the physicality was totally different than Missouri.”

Tatum said the officials allowed the teams to get away with more bumping, pushing, pulling and contact than he’s ever seen at home. There was one game the Cadets played where there were nine combined fouls called.

“We played Cal-Poly and that whole team would have fouled out in Missouri,” Tatum said with a laugh.

Whistle swallowing aside, the Cadets enjoyed their time away over the holiday. They played four games in six days, which meant there were lots of minutes to go around. The competition was top-notch and they even had some fun.

Senior shooting guard Beau Bommarito took second place in the 3-point shootout held during the tournament’s semifinals. He hit 19 of his 25 triples as he shot in front of a crowd Tatum estimated to be around 3,000.

“The kids really enjoyed it,” Tatum said.

The new year brings a new set of challenges for the Cadets. The schedule was beefed up and now they have to play relentlessly into February. This week alone the Cadets are scheduled to play St. Louis U. High on Tuesday, play Ballard (Ky.) in the showcase game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout on Thursday and then play Springfield Lanphier (Ill.) in the showcase game at the Highland Shootout on Saturday.

The following week they began play in their own D.C. Wilcutt Tournament which is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

On Saturday they head out for two games at the Flyin’ to the Hoop Basketball Invitational in Dayton, Ohio. They’ll take on Shaker Heights out of Cleveland and Versailles.

“We’re playing games like we’re in the NBA,” Tatum said.

The D.C. Wilcutt Tournament will be played next week and Tatum expected the seeds to be released on Wednesday.
