I had the horn fail to sound with a made basket one time. Luckily for us the home team was up by 46...so it was a little irrelevant that we counted the basket for the visitors.

And there you have it…

I go along with everyone who mentioned the “definite knowledge” aspect of the play. I also wouldn’t feel quite so bad because it’s the home school that ended up on the short end of the last shot in regulation. They don’t want it to happen again? They can do exactly what they’re doing…fix the clock.

Technically wouldn't the scoreboard/signaling device(s) fall upon the AD, & not the coach?

Maybe the AD delegated those duties.

Very true about delegating the duties, it just seemed a bit out of place for the coach to step up, instead of the AD.

At least it's not the problem where you start the clock, & on the scoreboard the clock stays stopped, even though on the control panel it shows the clock running.

If it is like most of the school around here, the coach and the AD are the same person.

You don't mention ….2 person or 3 person crew? This would be much easier to cal with a 3 person crew. More reason to push for 3-person.

During my most recent game, my partner had a count and when the clock delayed in starting, he called the end of the period. You can always do a silent count from when the ball is touched inbounds, which when there is that little time left, which would give you definite knowledge.
