Cold environment preparations
I know tournaments happen in venues where the court is placed on top of an ice rink, & figured the veterans could lend their expertise & experience on how to properly be prepared for such situations.
This could also be for gyms/venues where it is colder than normal. What do you do to prepare yourself physically/mentally when officiating a game in a cool/cold environment? |
If I've worked a game with a court on top of an ice rink, I didn't notice.
Cold locker room, I put my jacket back on during halftime. |
The only place that happens around here that I know of is the United Center, and they do not put the floor on top of the ice. They melt the ice, drain the water, and then put the floor in.

Yep, he's back. You don't even have to read the name.

I welcome it.
No special preparations needed. It's just not that big of a difference when you're running on the court. |

Like I said in the OP, also meaning gyms/venues that are not set to room temperature due to lack of insulation, improper heating, etc.... |
I've done one game in an arena where the floor was on top of the ice - to tell you the truth, I didn't even notice it. Guess that's the way it's supposed to be.
If I get in a gym that's a bit cool, it all goes away when I start running up and down the court....... |
I have called some JV games at older high schools in the alternate gym that were colder than normal. Only once was I aware of it during pregame. Once you start running the floor and focusing on you job its just another game.

/all black, of course. |
It impacts my pregame because I usually say something obvious to my partner such as "cold in here" and he will usually reply with something clever like "yup".
