Why would it have to be an old-timer? Many coaches I come in contact with either played college ball or watch college basketball, like we doing now. That is where many of them are getting their "knowledge" of the rules in the first place.

Officials working that rule set should be prepared to properly ajudicate this play. Both cases the basket should have counted.5

Asking for help (or providing help) on this type of play would be a good idea.

I have never had a coach ask me for the basket to count. They're usually too busy b1tching about the offensive foul call itself.
