Rich-I'm not one of those people but I believe that player safety is paramount.
grunewar -I didn't make this up.If you saw tape of this game you would've been shocked at what was let go.

To yell at her own players for playing too physical?

If she was out of the box yelling at her kids to stop fouling it didn't work.We were just trying to take care of our team so I didn't hear what she was saying.speaking of the box-in a set up where the benches are on bleachers with the table does the box start at the 10 foot line of the volleyball court or some other mark that the R determines during the meeting? I know in our gym where we lay out the tables and chairs usually the officials just count 7 chairs down and that becomes the box.

By rule it's 14' - 28' from the endline (if you're using the 14' box).

In some states, if it's not marked, then there's no box (or no box for the home team). In others, they just guess-timate, like you do.

We're not allowed to start the game unless/until the coaching box is marked.

From our state interscholastic sports governing association:

Coaching Box must be marked. If home coach and/or home management refuse to designate coaching box
with tape, the home team will not use a coaching box for that game. However, the visiting team will be
allowed a coaching box. Notify Board Commissioner the next day.

What to do with a glass kid?

Along the same lines. What do you do with a player (VG) who plays hard but 2-3 times a game is down and in tears from a collision, or rolled ankle, or wind knocked out of them etc. Seems every girls game I do lately there is at least one kid who plays at the edge of control and ends up "injured" 2-3 times per game.

What is there to do?

Stop play when inappropriate, beckon the coach, and wait until you can resume play.
