Injured player @ one end while play goes on at the other

Hey all,
Yesterday in my jv girls game I had a player down at one end with a fast-break occurring at the other end.defense secures the rebound and then play is blown dead.correct me if I am wrong but if play remains at the same end as the injured player it is blown dead immediately and if it goes to the other end it is blown dead once play resumes in the direction of the injured player?
Thanks,
Derryl

Incorrect.

If the player's team has control when the player goes down, kill the play immediately.

If there's a fast break going to other way, hold the whistle until the opponent pulls up and is no longer advancing the ball or takes a shot. Then, kill the play.

It's a good idea for the trail official to stop and stay with the player who is down. This tells everyone, "I see her, I'm not going to let anything happen to her."

Thanks this happened about 4 or 5 times in the game.unusually high level of physicality for JVG.trail did do exactly what you suggested.

See 5-8-2 Note for the rule reference.

And wow! That is an unusually high number of injury situations.

In a girl's game? That sounds pretty regular to me.

Peace

Yeah-a total of 14 fouls were called for this game.one of my players ended up spraining a finger, and another couple went to the deck multiple times and had to get ice but were otherwise fine.the physicality had both coaches frustrated but especially the home coach who left her box several times and stayed out for multiple possessions.

Rut-
I've never seen a girls game where the coach had to step out onto the floor to check on her players this many times.

The first few years I worked varsity girls games, it was common to have girls fall to the floor and we would have to stop the game several times to have an "injury" looked at. Then the a girl would get helped off as if they had sprained or torn something. Then the very next dead ball, they are at the table to come in the game. Maybe that has changed, but it was a running joke with me and my partner about how many times we would have a girl acting like she was killed only to play the very next opportunity. One of the reasons I stopped wanting to even work any level of girl's basketball.

Peace

or coach-I sat on the bench and did stats and it took everything I had to control the girls and not say anything to the officials myself.Rut-I didn't realize you had that experience with the girls game.

Five years ago, I was training a HS kid to ref in our local kids rec league. We were working a 5B game. One of the players was running down court when he tripped and fell forward head first, banging his head on the court. It was an elementary school gym with one of those really hard composition floors. I immediately blew my whistle and ran over to him. His coach, who was also his dad, ran out on the court to take care of him.

The kid I was training came over to me and asked if we should give the coach a T because he came on the floor without one of us calling him out. I didn't know whether to give the kid a smack or give him a gold star for knowing the rule.

BTW - the league has a rule that we stop play immediately if we think a kid is injured regardless of the game situation. This is a rec league and the safety of the kids comes first.

I just looked at my scorebook.1 foul called between both teams in the first half (on them),13 between the two in the second half.most of the 13 were called in the fourth quarter as I think the officials attempted to regain control of the game.they're control over the home coach was awful too

This seems pretty contradictory. (I had a VG game earlier this season that was "physical," and me and my P's called 29 fouls in the first half.....)

I also agree that this is a high number of players staying down. Definitely not the norm here.

What drives me crazy are people that think we should do something more to protect the girls than we'd do in a boys game.
