Marquette vs USF--Video Request

Saw that a Marquette player was charged with a Flagrant 2. Was wondering if someone could pull the video.

I believe it's the 13:46 mark of the second half, and according to the ESPN article, it was for an elbow to the head of a USF player.

Thanks in advance.

I was watching the game when it happened.

Technically, it was a flagrant 2 technical foul that was called.

Good call.

Based on the replay from the endline definitely a FF2. He went headhunting.

It's a good thing the lead official got in there to break the player's fall -- otherwise he would have hit the back of his head hard on the floor and been in even worse shape.

IMO he was already knocked out.

sure -- but his brain would have been bruised even more if he had hit his head hard on the floor.

My big question is what action really knocked him out. The moment he was hit (and he was hit), he seemed to not react so much. Then, a moment later, when the opponent swung through again an missed, he flung back as if he were hit. It was odd timing.

Was the initial call that preceded it a held ball or a foul on the defender? It should have been one or the other.

From Tampa Bay online
"LeDay survived a scary moment with 13:46 left when he was hit in the head with a vicious elbow from 6-foot-8, 290-pound Davante Gardner. Marquette's big man was ejected, and LeDay stayed in the game.":D

Is there any report from the game saying he was knocked out? I only see stiffler3942 mentioning anything about a knockout or concussion.

I agree Camron Rust, the timing is odd. The player definitely got hit, but unless he is leprous, pain does not take that long to react to. As I said, that player was hit, but in my opinion exaggerated the hit and exhibited some gamesmanship.

It appears to me that the first hit knocked him cold but he was sufficiently tangled with the player that he didn't fall until the second swing caused him to come loose.

You're not going to get a big reaction when someone's knocked out in one hit.

Edit: We have a saying in soccer; the less someone rolls around the more serious the injury is. The subdued (or if you prefer, delayed) reaction from the player is an indication of how serious the injury is rather than an indication of exaggeration.

I don't buy it, the 2nd reaction wasn't just being let go, it was a positive movement. His head, without being hit again, jerked away. It may have been a delayed reflex of some sort that I don't' understand but it made it look like he got popped again when there was no contact at that point.
