I don't buy it, the 2nd reaction wasn't just being let go, it was a positive movement. His head, without being hit again, jerked away. It may have been a delayed reflex of some sort that I don't' understand but it made it look like he got popped again when there was no contact at that point.

I'm not seeing what you're seeing. It looks to me that his neck stays fully flexed backwards from the point that he's hit until he hits the ground.
