I know I didn't read a single word of that wall of text. I'm sure others did the same. Perhaps if it had been shorter, more would've read it.

Not at all what I was saying. Rich nailed it, though.

Keeping it shorter makes it more valuable in this case, imo. I'm curious, what was your source?

He cut-and-pasted right from the case book.

I thought so, but it was so long I thought maybe it came from some rules dissertation someone wrote in college.

You can tell because of the formatting (as in the text doesn't go to the end of page before starting a new line).

I had a partner once who called a technical foul on the crowd. Ball ended up in the stands where the home team students sat. Kid took the ball and hurled it into the back of a visiting team player.

Partner completely lost it and Ted up the stands and went to the scorer's table and had an announcement made and then got a police officer to go over in front of the stands and try to find out who threw the ball so that person could be removed.

All while I stood there thinking, "Really?"

(And yes, those of you who know me, it's THAT GUY.)

I was new V official in one of my first V games and had a Senior P call disconcertion on the H crowd during a FT - and it was the second half and the person yelled from the other end of the court!

I Can State That Citation In Eleven Words ...

State That Citation.

It was a citation, and a damn good one, 2.8.1 SITUATION. Did I have to put it in quotes?

Ever hear of Cliff Notes? Rule citation and condensed summary would have worked well.

That would have required typing. Or cutting along with the pasting.

How would you have handled that?

I would've sent the teams to their benches and had game management remove the person who threw the ball. With that out of the way, I would've restarted the game.

Going back to the OP:

High School Season and AAU/Summer ball are different animals, IMO.

I would never give the crowd a T. But tossing fans in the right situation should be no big deal, IF it is warranted.

In an AAU game, especially with a small aux. gym and people screaming when things are dead quiet and there is NO game management anywhere, we become defacto judge, jury, and executioner. Recently I had a guy going bonkers on me during a quiet moment(he'd been at it for a while). I summoned my best tough guy voice and stare and told him "Sir, this game will be going on with or without you". I thought he was going to faint. Later he came up and made small talk to make things better.(???) Can't make this stuff some sometimes.

My kids aren't old enough to play, but sometimes it seems like emotional parents lose control of themselves and need a reminder.
