Block/charge

Saw this play yesterday in a local youth league and I'm interested to know what you think about the block/charge play at 9:06.

What does the defender do wrong?

Block...defender had not established LGP when contact was made AND feet are further than shoulder width apart.

I agree with you. I don't think the defender ever establishes LGP.

You like it? To be honest, I don't, too flashy and our old grey shirts looked better.

For the record: I had a blocking foul on the play.

I see this as a 50/50.

You gotta slow it down to see that Neanderthal guy from the Geico commercials establishes LGP at 9:05, then moves laterally when contact is made at 9:06 before the offensive player leaves the ground.

Thoughts on the illegal use at 9:19 against Red 10?

I believe FIBA wants to clean up poor play, but White 9 scores an easy 2.

Looks like he made at least the 1st of the 2 for the penalty.

I had a block, but I thought it was close. B1 leans his torso back and into the path, but not his feet.

At regular speed I have a block as the contact appears to be mostly in the extended leg.

Frame by frame I see LGP established. However, at the point of contact the B player appears to be moving towards the A player and it still looks like the majority of the contact is in the leg (thigh area) of the left leg that is extended beyond the frame.

But then, I have noticed a tendency on my part to default to a block and it is something that I am working on this season. The Ohio State training video for this year has some excellent examples of PC fouls that I would have called as blocks. I will be bringing this video for discussion to our association meeting.
