Front court vs backcourt status

A is under pressure in the backcourt. A1 passes to A2 who starts in the front court and is coming back to the pass when he catches it with one foot in the front court and one foot in the backcourt. What is the call? We Could not come to the same conclusion between officials.

ball is still in the BC, as one foot is in each plane. If he were to lift the foot in the BC then the ball is now FC and if he lifts the foot in the FC then nothing changes.

BC... Reference BC/FC ...you are where you are until you get to where your going. A2 is still in his F/C until he lifts that one foot touching in the F/C

If he caught the ball with one foot on each side of the line, he had already arrived.

arrived where?

Straddling the mid-court line gives that player (in any situation) BC status.

Wow... I shouldn't be responding to anything after three cocktails. I guess that's why we don't do games if we've had anything to drink.

Arrived in the backcourt:

4-35-2

When a player is touching the backcourt, out of bounds or the three-point line, the player is located in backcourt, out of bounds or inside the three-point line, respectively.

And that is how I tried to explain it to him. He just would not agree to it. It makes me sick to my stomach when officials use rules that have no basis in the books.

The coach probably didn't like that the player came from the FC and only needed 1 foot in the BC, with the other still in the FC, to obtain BC status.

Not a coach, another veteran official.
