You couldnt play basketball here (VA) this time of year with the popularity and so called importance of football. I think they would string you up if even an open gym were held before the football players were done. One of the few states that plays hs soccer in spring so as NOT to conflict with football.

It's definitely king in my part of the state. There are always b-ball games that get postponed at the beginning of the season due to schools still participating in the football play-offs.

I had a preseason meeting on Monday this week...

My first scrimmage is next Monday, and I hit the ground running on Nov 1 with 5 scrimmage/exhibition matches in 6 days!

I can't wait!

I'm from Mo too, and we are talking really small schools here; most have basketball and baseball/softball and that is about it. I've already done 4 games this year, I had to drive out in the sticks to get to them, but hey, good warm up.

Not something I or Bart Scott would get excited about. (unless of course those are paid games)

These are the traditional junior high school (middle school) fall sports here in my little corner of Connecticut. Scholastic basketball (middle school, high school, boys, and girls) is a strictly winter sport.

We have cross country but most or possibly all don't have field hockey. Volleyball for junior high is played in the spring. High school volleyball is now though. Not sure about soccer as our school doesn't offer it. I think only a small percentage around us does.

The first tournaments around here either are missing players or have players that have not practiced yet due to football playoffs but the basketball games go on.

First scrimmage: Oct. 27
First game: Nov. 9 (7 games scheduled so far through Nov. 13)

Looking very forward to this season after losing 40 pounds over the summer. Very happy to pack the 32 waist pants in my bag again instead of the 36.

Congrats Smitty!

Thanks Welpe! Feels so much better. No more back pain. Life is good.

I'm already tired of hearing about the UIL/TASO nonsense and there has only been one meeting so fer here. How are things down there?

Welpe Wed Oct 10, 2012 03:14pm

A flippin' nightmare. You saw my post a while back about the struggle between the chapters. Well my chapter's leadership didn't inform everybody until last week. That PO'd a lot of people as you might imagine to get blind sided by this news.

Three chapters are fighting over the school districts and it's getting ugly.

You may have heard there was a challenge to leadership within the UIL chapter down here and the incumbent president narrowly missed getting removed from office by only a few votes. It is a shame too because I think that might've been the impetus to some real change but it's more of the status quo now. Sad to say, I'm at the point that I don't care which way the lawsuit goes as long as it gets settled so we can move on.

Oh and TASO doesn't have a record of me paying this year despite the fact I sent my dues to the chapter. Fun times all around.

That all sounds so painful - especially them losing track of your payment. Such a mess. Sorry you have to go through all that and possibly (probably?) lose out on a lot of games.

I am feeling VERY fortunate that I have the option of working for the chapter I am in. I will be thanking my lucky stars a little bit more tonight. Sorry for your pain, though.

Well, your buddy APG moved himself into a mess out here....LOL

Welpe Wed Oct 10, 2012 03:26pm

I didn't know he had moved out that way. I know its bad out your way too so maybe he'll feel right at home. :D

Most of them are for pay, which is good.

The bad part is that I will drive 1300 miles over those 6 days for these games...
