Is a player allow to hang on the rim to avoid injury if he is not the player shooting the ball? He is a player coming from the weak side, and there are players under the hoop when he jumps in anticipation of the rebound.

I agree. In NFHS the requirement is also that the player is attempting to avoid injury. If, in the official's judgement, that is indeed the case, then ignore the T and go on. I'd rather not risk having an injury because I am being hard-assed about the minutia of the rule. The intent of the rule is clear! However,if this player has more episodes of trying to avoid injury in the game...whack!

Just to add, this is not a license to chin the rim. Hanging to avoid injury is one thing but he should be allowed to pull up on the rim.
