That's one of those "basic" rules I believe all officials should know.

Rules 4-35 (NFHS), 4-46 (NCAA) and 7-1 (both) explain it all.

That's why I was asking, I'm a first year official and like most fans/coaches I've always heard the two feet thing. Now I know.
