In a Girl's High School game, so much of the offense is geared around getting the ball into the paint, and Coaches/players get so upset when something is missed in the paint, that I always pregame with my P's that the key is everyone's PCA tonight. If you see something in the key, call it. So like I said before - 3 whistles on this play is not that big of a deal.

At a play off last night, Girls Varsity, 3 man crew.

Had a held ball past into the lane from lead's position, and all 3 guys blew their whistle.

Is this acceptable? Should all 3 guys be looking at the ball?

I could see, 2 whistle, but 3?

I see 3 whistles in the NBA on a yearly basis. It could happen in a Fed game too.

Not at all. I could easily position the officials and players such that none would be straight-lined.

Lets see if this ascii drawing comes through...(players just under the FT line)

Code:

              T
                                                  L

                            O    X

                                C

Every official in this arrangement can see through the play.

X & O would be closer on a held ball based on the scale of your diagram and either the T or L would not be to see the ball without some extreme movement by the L or T. I just don't see all 3 officials having an open look.

Sure they could. Not all held balls are in tight....or maybe the ball is not centered. It is not at all difficult for all 3 to be able to see it.

In the play I described, They were opposite of the "C" with their back to the "C" he could not see the ball.

I digress here somwhat. Pet peeve is the quick whistle, usually in a girls game, where there is no tie up, just a loose ball(I know, "I don't want anyone to get hurt") or one quick tug and defender rips ball from opponent and there is the quick whistle to let everyone know that he's all over the play........aaarghh!
