Disqualified Player
Player fouls out with 1 second, 5 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute.....
Player is ready to sub for DQ'ed player. Do you always tell the coach and player about the disqualification? |
Always and without exception.
|
Yes, otherwise you have no recourse if the coach puts the player back into the game. Also, telling the coach makes the player bench personnel. Some coaches may get snippy about it when they've already sent the sub in, but you still have to tell them.
|
I also ensure that the sub goes to the table so that the opposing coach sees who is coming into the game. Some refs let the sub come in from the bench.

Yes, I always inform the coach. I rarely tell the player.
If the team has a sub at the table, I'll ask the coach, "is this the sub for #(dq'd)?". The coach almost always says yes and I bring the sub in without even needing to do the 20-second procedure. |

Just like Nevada, if a sub is already there, I ask if the sub reporting is for the DQ'd player. |
?????
I wonder why some of my fellow officials do not tell the coach when the player fouls out and the sub is already there?????? Their statement (excuse) is "the sub is in the game, let's go."
Oh well..... |

I can only think they're trying to speed things up, but that is when we make mistakes. |

Apparently many players think it makes a difference when a player fouls out or is injured. I find it happens a lot that they will try to enter without reporting in these circumstances when they would not do so otherwise.
