One Lump Or Two ???

I once informed a coach that his player had fouled out and he replied sarcastically, "Why do you think I've got a substitute at the table?" A few seconds later, we had a "tea party".

AFTER I have informed my partners that we have a disqualified player if I turn to the coach and see it's obvious he is aware I just keep my distance, put up 5 fingers, and say 5. I've never had a problem.

If I see a sub at the table, I ask the coach (from the reporting area), "This sub is for the DQ'd player?" It counts (in my book) as the notification.

Got the annoyed "I know" last night. The sub was already at the table, so I just let the sub in, turned away from the coach, and got into position for the FTs.

Player is ready to sub for DQ'ed player. Do you always tell the coach and player about the disqualification?

With apologies to the late J. Dallas Shirley: Always inform the HC.

I almost had that situation about three weeks ago. "Coach that's 5 on 23 I need a sub." He looks at me and points to a sub standing at the table then says, "what do you think that is?" (in my mind "okay a$$ hole, next little comment and you'll be sitting" he had been a little chirpy the whole game. One of those guys that would ask about a call and when you begin to tell what you had they get this poop eating grin on their face like you're feeding them a complete line of BS.

Rather than say that I need a sub, giving them a chance for such a response, I ask if that is their sub for #23. If they say no, I have the timer start the count, if yes, the sub comes in an we move on.

I'll try that next time, thanks for the idea.
